MEANING OF JUJU DHAU

Juju Dhau means “King Of Yogurt” or “King Curd.

In the Newari language, Juju translates as “King,” and Dhau means “yogurt

HOW IT IS CHARACTERIZED?

Juju Dhau is identified by its creamy texture, along with the incredible cream and sweet texture of cardamom, coconut shavings, and cloves. You will find that the typical Newari desert "Juju Dhau" comprises a thick consistency of yogurt and is plated up typically in a clay pot. Unlike regular yogurt is made from fresh cow milk and buffalo milk. Clay pots must be warm but prior to this process, clay pots are poured into the water to prevent them absorbing milk from the curd. Here, no sugar is added to bring sweetness but spices like coconuts, cardamom, etc would create mouth-melting sweetness.

HISTORY

Many foreigners might have questions related to 'Juju Dhau' in their minds related to Juju Dhau. Why it is named Juju Dhau? Is there any reason behind that and many more? For that, you need to go through an ancient story of Nepal where the King of Nepal conducted a yogurt competition among the yogurt makers from Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur( cities of Nepal). The king liked the curd of Bhaktapur among them that's why from that day the yogurt of Bhaktapur was known as Juju Dhau. It is one of the most prominent food items that has become integral to the cuisine of Bhaktapur district. Now, all you need is a spoonful of Juju Dhau. A good desert can turn any day around.
